This is a very simple first puzzle, made up of 20 two-piece puzzles, each representing the numbers 1 to 20. For each two-piece puzzle, the bottom piece simply shows the number, while the matching top piece shows the corresponding number of objects in a fun and colourful illustration. For instance, there are 6 slippery snakes, or 11 pretty butterflies. Each illustrated puzzle piece will only fit the correct number piece, so children will be able to tell if they have the wrong number. This puzzle will help enormously with counting skills and with number recognition. It will also help with hand-eye co-ordination, and by talking about the illustrations you can also help their vocabulary skills; can you describe one of the socks? Which of the illustrations show things you would find in a garden? Which cards show things you would eat? You can also find extra ways to count things; how many of the spiders are blue? How many of the fish are facing the left? If you add all the mice and the cats together, how many would there be altogether? If you eat 3 of the cakes, how many would be left? If you shared the flowers among 3 people, how many would each person have? The puzzle is aimed at children aged 3 and over, but finding extra ways of talking about the cards will help children with their basic maths skills in a fun way.
