Pinatas are traditionally used for children's birthday parties, but are also popular for other events. They are made of paper mache, which is then covered in colorful paper. The pinata is filled with candies and other small prizes, and then hung from a tree or other high place. A blindfolded person then swings a stick or bat at the pinata until it breaks open, spilling the contents.
